Communicating with ICT
EduBlog
- http://edublogs.org
- Software for both teachers and students to create blogs. Teachers can disseminate information as part of their instructional pedagogical practice or for students to post content to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of a particular topic.
- All internet enabled operating systems and mobile devices
- No Cost
- Upper Primary and Secondary Students
- This resource is included in Capability 4 ‘Understand computer mediated communications’ as Edublog facilitates teachers and students to communicate in an asynchronous group context.
- Blogging provides an alternative medium for students to engage with their learning and with other students. Blogging can increase student’s writing skills and enables them to interact and appreciate the perspectives of others (Sullivan & Longnecker, 2014). Although, students who tend to be more introvert and less confident may struggle to express themselves in this type of forum (Salam & Hew, 2010).
Wikispaces

7. Wiki’s can be valuable educational tools as they have shown to enable effective collaboration amongst students and teachers (Deters, Cuthrell & Stapleton, 2010). However, some wiki’s lacked advanced word editing functions that are often found on desktop word processing applications, (Harris & Zeng, 2008), although it is expected that since this research wiki’s have developed in this area.

Hudl Technique: Slow Motion Video Analysis
- https://itunes.apple.com/app/video-coach-ubersense/id470428362?mt=8
- Video analysis app which allows users to record any sporting action, for students and teachers then to analyse technique in slow motion.
- Mobile devices (both Apple and Android)
- No cost
- Stage 5 and 6 PDHPE Students
- This resource is included in Capability 4 ‘Collaborate, share and exchange’ as it enables students to collaboratively share their perspectives on functional anatomy and biomechanical movement analysis.
- This digital resources provides a wealth of advantages over traditional movement analysis, such as, high resolution slow motion footage over personal judgements and real time feedback during the skill execution (Giblin, Tor & Parrington, 2016, pp. 4-5). However, Giblin et al. (2016), cautions that improvements on performance is not based soley on new technology, but how the information is used.

Padlet Backpack
- https://padlet.com/premium/backpack
- Padlet is an online software tool where PDHPE students are able to contribute and collaborate on a range of personal topics
- Mac and PC operating systems, Apple and Android devices
- $1499 USD per school per year
- Upper Primary and Secondary Students
- This resource is included in Capability 4 ‘Understand computer mediated communications’ as it allows students and teachers to communicate with text, images, hyperlinks and videos with each other via a ‘wall’. The wall is controlled and mediated by the teacher.
- There are a range of benefits that Padlet can bring into a classroom, Fuchs (2014, pp. 7-8) outlines that Padlet promotes meaningful collaboration and student engagement. Particular the anonymity feature enables students who may lack confidence to share their views and feedback on the wall. However, one of the limitations of Padlet as with all web based application is it’s dependence on internet connection, which is not always reliable (Fuchs, 2014, p. 8).
